May 2006 Trade services take off for RTP partner
SSP Maroqand, is a communications and information technologies firm started by the Uzbek Chamber of Commerce in January 2005. The company became a Regional Trade Promotion partner in February 2004, offering trade services provided by EDP, in particular access to the web-based marketplace smetradecenter.net.
To offer further support to the RTP partnership already established with EDP, in November 2005 Tashkent Relationship Manager Makhamatjon Kasimov completed an SAP for Maroqand. The SAP focused on differentiating their services through an increased marketing effort to promote smetradecenter.net, a unique service in Central Asia. In addition, the SAP outlined actions to incorporate all regional Chambers of Commerce into a unified electronic wide area network using smetradecenter.net.
Specific actions that were implemented include developing a website for The Chamber of Commerce and Industry to further market its services, establishment of high speed internet access and a corporate mail server, and the development of an online tender portal.
Since implementation of these actions as well as incorporating smetradecenter.net into its portfolio of services, Maroqand has facilitated trade deals in the SME sector amounting to over $1,600,000 and registered over 80 commercial offers on smetradecenter.net.
Maroqand Director Jaloliddin Turakulov is delighted with the results and is already looking to further grow the organization through continued work with the EDP. He commented that, "Further cooperation plans include: increasing professional skills of trade experts on online trade in the regions, creating a system of virtual online exhibitions, offering consulting services on strategic planning, and introduction of new software systems to digitize business paperwork."
