Bright smiles all round for Kyrgyz toothbrush manufacturer
Established in 1979 and privatized in 1993, Dostyk JSC from the Jalal-Abad region of Kyrgyzstan, used to produce component parts for radios and televisions, but after the collapse of the Soviet Union the company rapidly lost their Russian customers and was forced to look for alternative business opportunities.

Regional Trade Promotion network expansion in Kyrgyzstan
The coverage of USAID EDP Regional Trade Promotion (RTP) service has been significantly increased through a number of innovations introduced. As of April 2005 EDP have been working with 6 partner organizations in Kyrgyzstan which now offer consulting services on export / import operations and deal making assistance for local businesses.

Association of Business Incubators and Techno - parks (ABIT) of Uzbekistan
Association of Business Incubators and Techno - parks of Uzbekistan has been a client of USAID EDP since July 2003. In January 2004, ABIT was awarded USAID EDP grant on Regional Trade Partner (RTP)/ "Partner on "smetradecenter.net". Association Development Program of USAID EDP provided various types of technical assistance, such as consultation on association development, strategy development, informational support, Strategic Action Plan development and its implementation.

EDP client achieves amazing sales growth through partnership with EDP Regional Trade Program
Savdo Web is a recently formed trading company based in Tajikistan's Sogd Oblast. Savdo Web's Director Zebonisso Solieva wanted to be the first company in Tajikistan to use the Internet as a primary tool in developing trade.

RTP continues to expand its reach outside Central Asia through www.smetradecenter.net
The USAID EDP Regional Trade Promotion (RTP) component has achieved another success through its internet based trade portal www.smetradecenter.net with a USD 80,000 deal between the Uzbek firm Ipakimpex and Pakistani firm Sheikh & Sons to supply 20 tons of cocoons for use in silk production.

Trade deal helps to expand Kyrgyz telecoms
Kyrgyz Tumar, a telecommunications installation company, has signed the first in a series of contracts with Hong Kong based company Hua Wei, to install telecommunications equipment in Kyrgyzstan.

EDP facilitates export of Tajik aluminum wire to Afghanistan
Afghanistan has been undergoing significant reconstruction in the past few years. With this reconstruction, there is a great need for materials like wood, metal, and concrete. Tajik firms, however, have not been benefiting from the demand for construction materials in Afghanistan. This is beginning to change with the EDP facilitated export of 194.5 metric tons of Tajik aluminum cable to Mazari-Sharif, Afghanistan.

Turkmenistan trades into Afghanistan
In order to expand trade facilitation services to Afghanistan, a trade delegation composed of Turkmenistan Country Director Kyle Gunther, RTP/TK Advisor Vladislav Erniyazov, local businessman Tachmurad Nabatov and EDP Afghan Trade Task Force Advisor Khushvakht Rakhmikhudoev visited Afghanistan on August 1-8, 2004. The primary goal of the business trip was to locate potential customers for locally produced Turkmen goods, such as juice, dry milk, drinking water, sugar, tomato paste, ketchup, cookies and other confectionary products.

New meat processing pant opened in collaboration with ACDI/VOCA CAIP
In January of 2004 ACDI/VOCA CAIP Project approached EDP in Osh with a request to assist in locating suppliers of meat processing equipment from Russia for a new processing facility. EDP Osh provided ACDI/VOCA CAIP Project with company information and equipment description of eight suppliers of meat processing equipment located in Russia.
