Major new market opened for Kyrgyz honey
Honey production is a significant industry in the Ferghana Valley. Unfortunately, most production is small-scale, conducted by individual beekeepers with a few hives. Therefore, when Lancaster International Trading Company from Denver USA wanted to purchase 20,000 lbs of honey, USAID Trade Facilitation and Investment Project (TFI) and Enterprise Development Project (EDP) were needed to help producers meet the international requirements. This huge export opportunity represented a great opportunity for an industry that has already benefited greatly from TFI's regulatory reform and EDP's consulting services.

RTP helps reopen trade channels for Ferghana exports
Uzbek farmers in the Ferghana Valley have benefited from the extensive reach of EDP's Regional Trade Promotion service, with a deal to supply USD 200,000 of tomato paste to a Ukrainian buyer. In addition to this, the efforts of EDP's Ferghana Trade Specialist, looks as though they will pay off with extensive interest being shown in Ferghana fruit and vegetables from a Russian buyer.

Trade Fair Preparation Gives EDP Clients the Competitive Edge
The 1st International Exhibition on Infrastructure Development in Tajikistan was held 13 - 15 October in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The exhibition featured three major industries; Telecommunications and Technology, Building and Construction, and Mining. A total of 53 international companies exhibited at the event (22 telecommunications, 25 construction, and 6 mining).

Firm Expands Business to Afghanistan with EDP Assistance
In May of 2004 Tajik firm Avicenna shipped 8 truckloads of mineral water and soft drinks to Afghanistan, for sale in Marzari Sharif. This first shipment was worth $32,000.

SMEs Close $355,000 in Deals with EDP Support
The Enterprise Development Project (EDP) in Turkmenistan assisted three local SMEs in June 2004. This resulted in three trade deals totalling $355,000

Cross border trade leads to big savings for Tajik importer
Dushanbe's newly hired Regional Trade Advisor Pulod Amirbekov concluded his first trade deal for $108,000. This deal between Tajik firm "Murod" and Ukbek exporter "Victoria Trading LLC" is for 3000 metric tons of cement at $36 per ton, including processing and shipping. This not only saves Murod $102,000 on purchasing locally, but gives them cement in 50 kg sacks which is more easily resold to their local construction clients.

Trade services take off for RTP partner
SSP Maroqand, is a communications and information technologies firm started by the Uzbek Chamber of Commerce in January 2005. The company became a Regional Trade Promotion partner in February 2004, offering trade services provided by EDP, in particular access to the web-based marketplace smetradecenter.net.

Patient negotiations pave way to a $42,000 purchase of equipment
Due to careful negotiation by EDP Khujand Business and Trade Advisors, Sharshara, a farmers cooperative operating in Zafarabad was able to purchase $42,000 worth of oil processing equipment.

Trade deals from Tajikstan
USAID/Pragma Regional Trade Promotion (RTP) has once again been instrumental in securing Regional and International trade deals for a variety of Tajik companies. Three examples from this quarter presented here, amounted to over $50,000 of trade.

Food processor opens up new markets
In March 2003, Sher, a Kyrgyz producer of sausage and meat products as well as a long-term client of USAID/Pragma Bishkek EDC, attended the second annual Exhibition for the Food Processing Industry in Osh. As a result of contacts made at the exhibition, the company won a new contract to supply Osh Market Grocery Store with weekly shipments of sausages worth $400.
